The Suitcase Is Never the Heaviest Thing You Carry on a Trip.

Many assume that traveling is just about packing clothes, booking accommodations, and choosing destinations. But let’s be honest, the heaviest burdens we carry often aren’t in our suitcases, they’re in our heads! Seriously, I once tried to pack my stress into a carry-on, but it just wouldn’t fit.

These burdens can be stress from daily life, fatigue from work, the desire for a break, or simply the wish to feel different for a few days. You know, like when you wake up and realize you’ve been wearing the same sweatpants for three days straight and your only plan is to binge-watch another season of a show you’ve already seen. This is why travel often feels more significant than merely visiting a new place; it’s like a vacation for your sanity!

A long drive through Mpumalanga, a peaceful stop in Dullstroom, or witnessing a sunrise near Kruger National Park can exceed expectations. Sometimes, just escaping routines, noise, and familiar settings is enough to feel lighter again, like your worries are on a permanent vacation while you sip a piña colada on a beach somewhere.

The fascinating aspect of traveling is that people often return home with less than they left with. Less stress. Less pressure. Less mental clutter. And let’s not forget, less money, because who can resist those overpriced souvenirs? “Yes, I absolutely need this tiny wooden giraffe that cost more than my lunch!”

Somehow, a camera roll filled with random road trip photos serves as evidence that taking a moment to slow down was exactly what was needed. Who cares if half of them are blurry selfies and pictures of your food? It’s all part of the experience, right?

This is the subtle power of travel. It provides people with the space to breathe again, unless you’re stuck in a middle seat on a plane, in which case, good luck with that!
